Canada amends Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR)

On January 4, 2023, Health Canada published amendments to the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR) in the Canada Gazette, Part II, to align with the 7th revised edition, and certain provisions of the 8th revised edition, of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The amendments came into force on December 15, 2022.

VOC Concentration Limits for Certain Products Regulations

January 5, 2022

On January 5, 2022, the Volatile Organic Compound Concentration Limits for Certain Products Regulations were published in the Canada Gazette, Part II: Vol. 156, No. 1 – January 5, 2022. The regulations apply to manufacturers and importers and establish concentration limits for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in approximately 130 product categories and subcategories.

United States to Align with 7th Revised Edition of the UN GHS

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today issued a proposed rule to update the agency’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to align with the seventh revision of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

Canada to Align with 7th Revised Edition of the UN GHS

Under the Canada – United States Regulatory Cooperation Council Joint Forward Plan, Canada has an international commitment to align the Hazardous Products Regulations with the seventh revised edition of the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). Adopting the seventh revised edition of the GHS would provide increased worker health and safety benefits and worker protections.
